  2. That's a wonderful world you are creating here! I have been twice in Barcelona and can recognize a lot of places I have visited. Will you also build the church Santa Maria Del Mar? After reading the novel Cathedral of the Sea by Ildefonso Falcones I had to see it in real :)

By the way: I noticed that you are building this world very dense - means many buildings close to each other on a small space. How will deal with game performance? Or do you use deco buildings?

    Cheers

    1. Hi Caruso :)
Santa Maria del Mar won't be there, I've run out of space in the Old town :(
The density of the city is something I have to control very strictly, the lots are all very big to be able to build buildings close to each other. That way I can fill the city with a lower number of lots, I plan not to exceed the 120 lots, and right now there are 44 built lots. I will use deco buildings in the outer parts of the city. I try to make the world as light as possible but it won't be an ideal world for low-end computers, that's for sure.
      Glad you like it :)

    2. Hi Nilxis
Interesting! I was asking about the lots because I am in the process of adapting an existing world to my personal taste - and that involves adding "density". The world is inspired by the Swiss Town of Zürich but is too green and park-like. So I started adding lots to create the typical layout of a middle european old town centre but I have come to a point where the world starts to crash to desktop after about 30 minutes of gameplay because the 4GB of addressable memory are reached. Then I found that deleting some lots or reducing the amount of objects on the lots resolves the problem.

Now I am wondering what your experience is with the low number of very big lots. Does that mean that on a single lot most of the buildings are just empty hulls and you would have a maximum of one family home on such a lot? How big are these lots? How heavy in data? I would appreciate very much if you could share some of your experience here :). Thank you.

    3. That's right, as more lots and objects you have the game runs worse. The number of CAW objects such as trees and the CC if you are using can also interfere. You have to find a good balance.

I'm not sure if laying out the buildings in big lots helps at all. The game has to load less lots at the same time, but on the other hand each lot is more detailed and has more objects.

Most of my lots have only one functional building and the rest are empty (just the façade with black walls and floors inside). My lots are 50x35, 45x30, 40x55 more or less. By heavy in data do you mean the world file's weight? Right now it's 61 MB with 56 lots.

If you want to see how a world like this affects your game you can download my world Empordà and play in the Old village, there are some big lots like these and the world has 121 lots.

If you have more questions just ask :)

  3. Thank you. I was wondering if you ever have made NPC doors on your big lots so that the non functional buildings on a residential lot could work as apartments? I suppose this way a sim family could still have neighbours on the lot although there is just one functional building on it.

      L'edifici que dius és l'edifici Colon: http://ca.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edifici_Colon
La veritat és que té una retirada amb les torres de La Caixa.
